Tech startup Remote, which provides tools and services for managing dispersed workforces, said Thursday that it hired former Uber executive Michiel Boere to serve as its first-ever CFO.

Boere joins Remote after spending seven years at Uber, most recently as global finance chief for UberEats, according to his LinkedIn profile. His new role as Remote CFO became effective on Monday, a spokesperson told CFO Dive.

“Following a successful first four years of business, Remote has reached a point where global financial expertise at the executive level will be critical for continued growth and scale,” Boere said in an email.
Dive Insight:
Founded in 2019, Remote assists organizations with onboarding, paying, and managing employees and contractors dispersed globally. Remote itself is a global, fully-distributed company with no physical offices or headquarters, although it’s legally based in San Francisco.
Boere will be responsible for Remote’s global financial strategy and operations as it enters its next phase of growth, the company said in a press release. He will be based in Amsterdam and report directly to Remote CEO Job van der Voort.
"Michiel is a great fit as Remote’s first CFO — he brings extensive experience in leading the financial operations of high-growth technology businesses as well as a personal commitment to Remote’s mission of enabling more people from anywhere to participate in the global economy,” the CEO said in the release.
Boere became global CFO of UberEats in April 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, he served various other leadership roles at Uber, including global head of finance for ridesharing and head of performance marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Before joining Uber, he was the CFO of Greetz, a Netherlands-based provider of greeting cards and personalized gifts.
With the appointment of Boere, Pedro Monteiro de Barros, who served as Remote’s senior vice president of finance, is moving into the role of contractors general manager, the release said.
